The Union of Comoros celebrated its 43rd Independence Day on July 6, 2018. For the second time since its history, Comorian Customs Services took part in this historic event. Customs officers of all kinds from all the islands came to Moroni to be part of the celebration. The brigadiers participated in the 6th July parade along with military, paramilitary and special detachments. Twenty Customs officers dressed in their highly symbolic outfit printed by their presence on the official tribune, the importance of the event.

By turns, battalions of the various army forces, police and gendarmerie units, customs services, group of firefighters, scouts and Cubs of the National Scout Movement, elements of the municipal police, marched in an overall movement perfectly harmonized and supported by rounds of applause of the general public in the presence of the Head of State, Mr. Azali Assoumani.

"It is a great pride for all customs officers to participate in the national event. For the honor we have been given, the Nation recognizes the role and mission of public services that the Customs Administration plays every day to improve the living conditions of Comorian citizens. "Said the Director General of Customs, Souef Kamalidini

Without any doubt, this recognition of customs by the Public is well deserved in many aspects. The customs administration has changed drastically. It contributes in a significant and effective way to the budget of the State which ensures besides the functioning of the State, the financing of the public investments. It supports economic activities and provides support for economic operators.

Beside being a tax and economic administration, Comorian Custom is also a paramilitary administration. It ensures the protection of the territory and the citizens, fighting against the illicit traffic of goods of all kinds.

For many years, Customs has been carrying out these security missions because of the powers conferred on it as a security administration and its in-depth knowledge of international flows of people and goods.

More than ever, the participation of Comorian customs in the 6th July parade alongside with other military and paramilitary corps is highly symbolic. It reflects the recognition of the country for the efforts made by the customs in terms of economic missions and by protecting the citizens and territory.
