After an unannounced check by the Brigadiers in Moroni port, on Tuesday, October 12th, 2018, two parcels containing illicit pharmaceutical products: 100 boxes of Viagra imported from Tanzania, were seized by the brigadiers.

According to Article 45 and 46 of the Customs Code, which is consistent with the COMESA Code, «The exportation of goods of which is prohibited under this Code by virtue of an agreement to the Union of Comoros which is a Contracting Party, or any other applicable law, may not be imported into the territory of the Union of the Comoros ".

After several investigations, the importer of the illicit products is finally retained by the brigadiers. The goods have been confiscated and a fine equal to twice their value on the domestic market has to be paid.

These strict measures are taken in relation to Article 480 of the Customs Code in order to reduce the increase of good trafficking and the forms of criminality which are constantly increasing at the world and national level.

The Comorian customs is committed to fight against all kinds of illegal traffic, but especially to protect consumers from substandard products, to control the circulation of civilian or military products and to fight against the introduction of illicit products that can harm the health of the Comorian population.
