The Director General of Customs, Mr. Souef Kamalidini, participated in the 132nd session of the Council of the World Customs Organization in Brussels.

Along with the Regional Director of Customs, Mr. Chabaani Ibrahima, the Chief of the Administrative and Financial Service, Mr. Youssouf Ahamada, and the Chief of the International cooperation, Mrs. Djamila Radjabou, the Director General of Customs, Mr. Souef Kamalidini, participated in the 132nd session of the Council of the World Customs Organization held in Brussels (Belgium) from June 28 to June 30.

More than 180 Customs Directors General of the World Customs Organization whose aim is to harmonize and unify customs procedures and promote international cooperation took part in the WCO Council whose work was chaired by Mr. Enrique Canon, Director General of Uruguay Customs.

The most highlighted topics and discussions were focused on a number of priority areas, precisely Mercator Trade Facilitation, cooperation between customs and tax administrations, the measurement of customs performance, E-commerce and its challenges.

As a result of this Council, a number of decisions were taken and adopted, namely the Cross - Border Electronic Standards Framework, the establishment of a working group to review the International Convention on Simplification and the harmonization of customs procedures (Revised Kyoto Convention RKC) with the aim of making this Convention a relevant instrument that will serve as a basis for the modern and efficient customs procedures of the 21st century.

The Assembly of Directors General recognized the importance of capacity building, research, sharing of information, and the establishment of an improved framework for dialogue between the public sector and the private sector.

Other important topics which have enameled this Council is the re-election of Mr. Kunio Mikuriya as Secretary-General of the World Customs Organization. Mr. Mikuriya has exercised his exceptional abilities and leadership since taking office as Secretary-General for the first time in 2009. His achievements are highly appreciated by WCO members.

Mr. Souef Kamalidini participated in the graduation ceremony of the customs inspectors who has fulfilled their courses in the Belgian Customs School. Five Comorian have successfully passed and obtained their diplomas, two of which had Excellent and Good honors, respectively.

On the sidelines of this Council, the Director General, Mr. Souef Kamalidini met with Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, the new Secretary General of the WCO, Mr. Rodolphe Gintz, Director General of French Customs, Mr. Christian Vandermaelen, General Administrator of the Belgian Customs and the Senior Technical Administrator in the Directorate of Control and Facilitation.
