Director General of Customs at the Cross-Border Global Conference on Electronic Commerce

The director General of Comorian Customs, Souef Kamalidini participated from 9 to 10 February 2018, in a conference in China on cross-border e-commerce which gathered more than 1000 representatives of all countries members of the World customs Organization . United Nations agencies, government organizations and e-commerce operators took part in this great event.

The objective of the conference was to elaborate on behalf of the WCO a framework proposal, to discuss the main aspects related to security, taxation, prevention, risk control, application of the latest technologies, customs cooperation and developments in the countries and regions concerned by the Road and Belt initiative on e-commerce.

The main outcome of the conference was the Beijing Declaration: a document describing the consensus of stakeholders at the conference and the vision of developing a global standards on customs matters.

In the upcoming months, the WCO will consolidate feedback from stakeholders and revise the standards framework prior document to its official publication in June 2018. This framework will be the first policy documentation which will elaborate how global customs agencies should oversee the global cross-border e-commerce in which Comoros will surely be a member.

The second major outcome of the conference was the announcement of the Private Sector Initiative for Cross-Border E-Commerce. the need to work with e-commerce operators to leverage their platforms, to monitor and collect data on CBEC activities which are now a must for our decade . Hence, The collaboration suggests that there will be new opportunities for e-commerce operators on new technologies and The latest will enhance the Security and efficiency of CBEC transactions.

WCO participates in the graduation ceremony of the Belgian Customs School

On 28 June 2022, at the invitation of the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in charge of the Coordination of the Fight against Fraud, Mr. Van Peteghem, the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, took part in the graduation ceremony of the 50th session of the Belgian Customs School. The ceremony marked the end of 10 months of theoretical and practical training in core Customs matters provided by the Belgian Customs School and complemented by the WCO.
