The 3rd Meeting of the Bureau of the sub-committee of the Directors General of Customs of the African Union held in Comoros (Moroni)

The General Directorate of Comorian Customs, in collaboration with the Trade Department Division of the African Union Commission, organized yesterday meeting of the Bureau of the sub-committee of the Directors General of Customs of the African Union.

The meeting started yesterday, Wednesday 13th February 2019 and will end up tomorrow, Friday 15th February 2019 With the newly appointed bureau of the Sub-Committee which goes as follow 1. Chair: Union of Comoros 2. Rapporteur: Rwanda and the Friends of Chairperson, Lesotho (East and Central Africa), Guinea (West & Central Africa) and Algeria (North Africa & Middle East).

The purpose of the meeting is to review the work of the last subcommittee and study the ways and means of implementing the recommendations of the last meeting, which took place in Comoros, 21 September 2018. Besides that, it will the occasion to elaborate and validate the agenda of the activities of the subcommittee for the year of 2019.

During the meeting, "This is the second meeting held by the Department of Commerce and Industry of the AU Commission within five months. We thank the Director General of Comoros Customs for his indulgence and all the support that he and his team have contributed to the success of our events, "says Aly Ibouroi, chief of trade department division of the African Union.

Before the end of the opening ceremony of the meeting, the Director General Comoros Customs thanked the members of the subcommittee and his team for their contribution and the success of this event. In addition, he took the opportunity to announce his cabinet, which will accompany him throughout his tenure as Chair of the Subcommittee of AU Directors General of Customs.

On 28 June 2022, at the invitation of the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in charge of the Coordination of the Fight against Fraud, Mr. Van Peteghem, the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, took part in the graduation ceremony of the 50th session of the Belgian Customs School. Comoros accedes to the Revised Kyoto Convention (RKC) and becomes the 130th Contracting Party to the Convention
